From the patient's perspective, the greatest achievement that care industry has made is working with legislation to pass the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act 2010. This is the most significant overhaul in regulations regarding the United States health care system in decades. Its goal is to reduce the number of uninsured Americans and reduce the overall cost of health care. The Act requires insurers to offer the same premium to all applicants of the same age and geographical location- without regard to pre-existing conditions. It allows those who have been rejected due to a health condition or disability to be covered by insurance. For those Americans 65 years or older, it strengthens Medicare and provides access to preventive services and prescription drug discounts. The Act also gives low-income individuals a chance to receive federal subsidies to purchase health insurance, and expands Medicaid eligibility.
