As a teacher for over 13 years, I find that group testing is highly distracting for special needs kids. When all the kids are together, some of them get off task, fidget, make faces, and really experience social and emotional difficulties in this type of setting. Since all kids work at different speeds, some kids who read quicker or answer more slowly are impeded when they have to wait for the other peers. Does that make sense?
