Behavioral research: pet therapy & sexually abused children

-Create a statement of the problem (tells what the study is about and why we are doing it) for a hypothetical research study utilizing descriptive research methods for sexually abused children and pet therapy. The age group of the children participating in the study will be between 10-12 years old. There will be approximately 20-25 children in the study. The type of dogs used in the study will be Golden Retrievers since they are often used as therapy dogs due to their calm demeanor, gentle disposition, and friendliness to strangers.

Therapy with sexually abused children is often very demanding and challenging. Art and cognitive behavioral therapy may help in some areas of development of personality and emotional stability in sexually abused children, but the efficacy of play therapy as well as pet therapy is much more as recognized by research studies done in this area.

The hypothesis for the present study is based on this research finding that pet therapy is effective as a treatment for sexually abused children in helping them heal and for their personalities and emotional well-being to develop, to some extent eliminating or minimizing the negative effects of trauma they underwent through their sexual abuse experiences.
