Nurses worldwide have a responsibility to engage in care that is predicated upon proven techniques and procedures that have been shown to be the most effective approaches for patient care. The ability for nurses to provide this standard of care helps in policy development and professional advocacy as it represents advocacy by results and by "evidence" wherein the nurses provide results through their actions. This helps nursing groups such as the ANA (American Nurse's Association) to strengthen their positions in regard to creating policies that benefit patients and nurses alike.
