According to Bandura's social learning theory, we learn both good and bad things from models, due to the fact that we as human beings have a strong inclination to imitate behavior that we observe in others, especially when those other individuals are highly influential and highly respected by us. Due to the fact that we have such a strong inclination to imitate behavior that we observe in others, children and adults tend to imitate the bad behavior as well as the good behavior in most instances, so in essence we learn both bad things from models, as well as good things. A prime example from my life where I have learned how to do something good from just observing a model, is the fact that I have observed my grandfather's work ethic for many years, starting as a small child. Due to the fact that I have observed my grandfather's work ethic, and he was an individual that I highly respected in my family, I began to work hard in my schoolwork, as well as the chores that performed around my home, due to the inspiration that I received from my grandfather. In addition, I continued to imitate his hard-working methodology as I grew into adulthood as well, due to the fact that I always gave 100% in every thing that I did, which is largely due to the strong model that he provided for me. On the other hand, I learned to do something bad through observing another model. As a youngster growing up, a highly regarded youth in our neighborhood who was older than I was, and had the habit of spitting on the ground, and due to the fact that I thought everything that this guy did was cool, I imitated this activity when I was at the playground around this individual.
