Lifespan Development and Personality

Developmental psychology is an organized study of the different life cycle phases of human beings, which describes the psychological development of the people. The lifespan development of human being involves the psychological and genetic alterations from the birth and end of the life. The progress of life is highly influenced by the hereditary and environmental factors involving the different aspects related to physical, cognitive, social, moral, and personality development (Shonkoff & Phillips, 2000).

The stage of development selected for the analysis is childhood (3-12 years). It is due to the reason that during the stage of childhood, human beings acquire physical, social, moral, cognitive and personal traits. These traits are helpful for the human beings in the overall personality development. The paper will include the discussion about the physical development, cognitive development and personality development of human beings during the childhood stage. It will assist in gaining an insight of the factors that affect the life span development of the human beings in the childhood stage (Karpov, 2005).

Factors affecting Physical Development

The phase of physical development of child is classified as gross motor skills development and fine motor skills development. Physical growth of the child can be assessed in the form of weight acquisition and physical movement of the body. Muscular movements of the child in the childhood stage, such as, jumping, running, walking, sustaining balance, etc. increases, which represents the physical development (Sternberg & Grigorenko, 2001).
