First, before any attempt to improve the physical fitness of the average American is undertaken, a trip to the doctor for a complete physical needs to be done. Not everyone falls into this category but a large percent of Americans do have health issues that will need to be addressed prior to any stressful physical exercise program is started. After that is accomplished, it is important to start slow. There is a misperception among many people that physical fitness requires long, sweat filled hours of lifting heavy objects, running up hill for miles and wrapping up in some kind of sports gear specifically designed to melt away layers of fat. This couldn't be further from the truth. Each individual is at a different level of fitness and starting at the right point is extremely important when we consider that most people quit because working out is too hard.
