Value can be defined as the relative worth, merit, or importance of an item, service, etc. or it could be the monetary or material worth, as in commerce or trade as well as the perceived worth of something in terms of the amount of other things for which it can be exchanged or in terms of some medium of exchange. I personally define value in regard to the return that is received on an investment made into a product or service. For instance, I invested over $100,000 into my education, after receiving a B.S. and Master's degree, I believe that over the course of my lifetime, if I live to 70 years of age, I will receive a return investment of $1,000,000 plus on this investment as it has enabled me to obtain a good career. Therefore, the college education I received was valuable for me.
