Succinctly state management's decision problem. This can be stated in a simple declarative sentence: "ABC Company needs to _________." Or, it can be a "should" question: "What should management do to __________?" Then turn management's problem into the research problems and objectives . This is an important first step in a marketing research project. If you fail to define the problem correctly, the rest of your project will suffer.
Get more specific about the problems the company is facing and how marketing research can address them.
Define the management problem. This is a statement of what the company needs or wants to do.
Define the research problem. What question(s) do we need answered in order to address the management problem?
State the research objective(s): Specifically, here is the information we need to find out.
