The application and utilization of proxemics and haptics vary from case to case. It gets a little more complicated however when putting in consideration cross-cultural counselling, especially when the counselor is of another ethnicity or culture. The counselor must consider the proxemics and haptics principles of the culture of his/her client so that he can plan his approaches, making sure that these elements of the treatment are respectful cultural and apply to the practices, standards or beliefs of the client. If the counselor does not consider the implications of these in a cross-cultural setting, it can hamper treatment and make it ineffective leading to further issues as well as ethical considerations.
