How effective do you think the media campaigns that you see on television regarding altruistic acts? The media can be helpful in creating awareness of issues that need attention. The media is a powerful persuasive tool, especially if the messengers are chosen carefully. Think back to who brought the plight of individuals in Darfur to the public eye and you may remember George Clooney or other "stars". The media can very much persuade the public that helping is a valuable service. The elements of persuasion can be used not only to sell merchandise but to persuade people to do good works and increase helping in society. Do you believe that this is a powerful aspect of encouraging helping behaviors in our society. Have you ever been persuaded to act altruistically by a public awareness campaign?
