1. Recent years have seen a significant increase in the use of online counselling as a viable alternative to the traditional face-to-face format. In your opinion, do you think that online counselling may replace the traditional forms of treatment in the near future?

On-line counseling is on the rise, but should never (and probably will not) completely replace the traditional forms of treatment in the near future. Some disorders and conditions require more in-depth treatment and need in-patient and intensive treatment that only face-face counseling and social contact (e.g. groups) can heal e.g., alcohol and drug treatment centers. It is also questionable for people with serious psychiatric disorders, like schizophrenia or bi-polar disorder, but can be helpful in conjunction with traditional treatment and stabilization and maintenance stages of treatment.

However, in some situations in might replace traditional counselling. For example, it has been shown to be helpful in some situations, like in offering youth a place to discuss normal developmental problems. For examples, where traditional counselling relies on physical contact, Internet counselling offers young people anonymity in a supportive environment that is designed to be accessible. Where traditional counselling relies on physical contact, Internet counseling offers young people anonymity in a supportive environment that is designed to be accessible - and even fun! For anyone who finds it difficult to discuss their problems with a professional face-to-face, online counseling is a viable alternative which lets them express their thoughts or concerns through email or other forms of Internet communication.
