Evaluation Research

Evaluation research applies the research methods to the assessment of an implemented program or policy. In this week's Discussion, you will connect the research methods presented in this course to evaluation research.

To prepare for this Discussion:

- Review the resources for program evaluation that you located. If your Instructor has posted resources specific to your discipline, you may choose among those as well.
- Consider the purpose of evaluation research.
- Determine which type of data is considered relevant to evaluation research in your discipline.
- Assess which research methods are applied most often to evaluation research in your field.

Hi Everybody,
This week our focus shifts a bit from pure research methods to the application of these methods for program evaluation and improvement. With Walden's focus on social change, it is important to know how to apply your research skills in order to bring about meaningful changes to business, organizational, and social policy. Last week's discussion led us nicely into this topic, as many of you indicated governing or policy-making bodies as intended audiences for your research. The goal of this week's lesson is to help you better understand how to effectively reach and influence those audiences, and our discussion this week will focus on this topic. What types of data and research methods are most prevalent and relevant in program research in psychology?

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3 a 2- to 3-paragraph correlation between evaluation research and the three research methods presented in this course.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the reading(s) and/or media segment(s) and use APA format.

Read a selection of your colleagues' postings.

Respond by Day 5 to at least two of your colleagues' postings in one or more of the following ways:

- Ask a probing question.
- Share an insight from having read your colleague's posting.
- Offer and support an opinion.
- Validate an idea with your own experience.
- Make a suggestion.
- Expand on your colleague's posting.
Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.

Furthermore, I learned from the video that evaluation research is involves in every area of study and can lead to social change in many ways. Social change can be on a small scale and only touch the lives of few people or it can involve many people. Moreover, each area of study has a slightly different focus when it comes to the purpose and outcomes of evaluation research. Dr. Gould stated, "Change creates problems, which require solutions, which generates more ...
