I will describe a current delivery model that is used by the University of Virginia medical school, which is a conceptual framework that focuses upon ensuring that the focus of the delivery of care remains tailored toward the patients and their family. The Relationship-Based Care system represents the framework that is capable of restoring the role of nursing toward patient-centered care that champions the relationships between nurses and patients, which are responsible for defining the patient experience in healthcare. The primary variables in this particular care delivery model are predicated upon the relationship between the nurse and themselves, the relationship between the nurse and colleagues as well as management, and the relationship that exists between nurses and patients as well as their families.

The objective of this delivery approach is to ensure that the human aspect of care is the primary focus of care and is capable of driving all aforementioned relationships that impact the patient's care.
