An area of possible fraud in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) environment is privacy breaches and data theft on information. There are numerous reports on privacy breaches that happened when hospital staff deliberately and inappropriately accessed celebrities' EHRs. For example, a well know Southern California medical center received multiple breaches involving the same pop singer in 2005 and 2008. Three clinical support staff members at "Tucson University Medical Center were fired in January 2011 after they accessed patient records of victims of the shooting tragedy in Arizona that included US representative Gabrielle Giffords".
