HITECH does promote innovations in IT because it supports many facets of the PCMH model such as the ability to collect, store, manage, and exchange relevant personal health information of patients; it enables communication among providers, patients, and the patients' care teams for care delivery and care management; the ability to collect, store, measure, and report on the processes and outcomes of individual and population performance and quality of care; it provides support for healthcare providers' in regard to decision-making on tests and treatments; and finally the legislation is capable of informing patients about their health and medical conditions while also facilitating their self-management with input from providers. These are all pertinent for 21st-century healthcare delivery.
