The ethical issue that will be explained in this section is predicated upon a real world experience with my wife, who is a nursing administrator for a mid-major city's regional hospital. My wife and our neighbor, who was a Registered Nurse working for the nursing department that my wife was an administrator for were good friends and we were good neighbors. After working for several years with the nursing department, our neighbor began to have personal problems with her marriage, which my wife was aware of as a neighbor and friend. As Christians, we ascribe to the Christian worldview that seeks to ensure that we show compassion to our fellow men, and therefore, my wife gave advice and always listened when the nurse wanted to talk about her problems.

Eventually, the neighbor/nurse disclosed that she was having an affair, her problems began to increase, and she was beginning to display erroneous judgment at the hospital. My wife had to decide the best option and most ethical decision to make when discovering that the nurse had made several mistakes that could jeopardize patients' safety. Initially, my wife offered the nurse opportunities to seek the necessary professional help to regain control of her life as well as ensure that she possessed the appropriate mentality for her job as a nurse.
