Throughout this book, it is highlighted, and despite inexplicable atrocities occurring on both sides of the war, there exists those who are able to not only display a degree of compassion and humanity that is akin to Christ, but they are also capable of sacrificing themselves to ensure that others don't experience the long-term guilt and confusion that accompanies seeing others die because of their decisions.
