Children love stories and properly selected and read, they can make a profound impact on language development and creativity. Literature can also be a good way to implement lesson plans, send a compelling message and offer good focus opportunities.
If curriculum or lesson plans are used, and a scope and sequence is followed, that will help to narrow down what content should be used. Otherwise, a hap hazard and unorganized approach can be confusing and fails to develop content well, over the long run. Using state standards (especially geared for older students), to make sure all necessary content areas are covered is critical.
