I remember reading any book I could get my grubby little paws on. The subject matter did not particularly concern me, it was the reading that was important. I preferred stories about horses -Walter Farley and Marguerite Henry were favorites- but anything was fair game. My dad was a preacher, and part of his responsibilities included vsiting church members. I tagged along; found the bookshelf; and sat for many happy hours reading while dad visited. I read lots of interesting things, some not especially designed for children.

Positive influences were opportunities to read, and parents who did not mind my reading ...
