With the increase of the American presence in other countries, the need for competent leadership cannot be overemphasized. Business executives and managers who travel abroad must become aware of the cultural and legal structure of the countries in which they want to develop a profitable and lasting presence.

Here are two key competencies required for global leadership, and how these competencies meet the needs of corporate leaders in a globalized world:

1. Portfolio careers are defined as "a tapestry of a variety of eclectic employment experiences; employment in a series of short-contract or part-time positions." (Businessdictionary.com, 2017) With the more recent decrease of life-long careers and the increase of a variety of working positions, the skills acquired over the years can lead to an increase of versatility, problem-solving skills and hands-on learning opportunities.
