Starbucks was founded in Seattle, Washington where people were connoisseurs of coffee. Over the years, Starbucks has becoming a part of many people's morning routine and daily beverage - leading Starbucks to making the big "bucks"!

Planning

Gordon Bowker made trips to Vancouver, British Columbia to purchase his coffee beans. He banded with two friends, Jerry Baldwin, an English teacher, and Zev Siegl, a history teacher. The store in Seattle, Washington was their first Starbucks, named after the first mate in Moby Dick. They gave coffee away to get consumers hooked on their product. By 1982, Starbucks had five stores. Howard Schultz came onboard as manager of retail sales and marketing. Schultz could envision restaurants in Europe serving the delicious dark roasted coffee, but the Starbucks' owners said they didn't want to be in the restaurant business.
