I will make several changes to my base's social media strategy. I will make the social media manager and his team free from the rules, regulations, and hierarchy of the US Army. In the new strategy, the social media team can during a crisis disclose all bad news truthfully, be available, and honestly reply to all key audiences. The new strategy will require the social media team of the base to be proactive so that everyone hears news directly from them, eliminate all controversies, and show empathy towards the victims of the crisis.

Several revisions need to be made to the base's social media strategy especially when used during a conflict. The base's social media strategy is highly restrictive and conservative allowing little sharing of information. The roots of social media behavior lie in the organizational culture of the US military. The AR 600-20 empowers commanders to punish officers who violate the regulation and the violation of online behavior is a punishable offense. The bar on releasing sensitive information is so severe that the culture of the military makes it very difficult to develop and implement an effective social media strategy for use during a crisis.
