"Kekre and Srinivasan's (1990) survey of 1,400 business units suggested that broadening product lines have a positive impact in competitiveness and that firms in many businesses have to increase their product variety to remain competitive." (DaSilveria 2006)

While the business is a dry cleaning operation, there are many services that fall under the "product line approach" that will assist in promoting the services offered.

"The performance of product variety concerns its relationship with other objectives - for example cost, quality, speed and dependability. Trade-offs between variety and these objectives have been identified in the literature (Yeh and Chu, 1991) and were corroborated by the cases' evidence." (DaSilveria 2006)
