Biotherapy is a type of treatment meant to boost or restore the ability of the immune system to fight cancer, infections, and other diseases. It is also used to control the side effects that may be caused by some cancer treatments such as drugs administered during Chemotherapy. The agents used in biotherapy include monoclonal antibodies, growth factors, and vaccines. These agents may also have a direct antitumor effect. It is also known as immunotherapy, biological therapy, biological response modifier therapy, and BRM therapy.
Doctors are not sure regarding how biotherapy helps the immune system fight cancer.
