Because ancient Egypt was not a land susceptible to constant invasion and change, a style of art and architecture was begun, developed, and maintained with limited change for over 3000 years. Especially in viewing their accomplishments in the field of architecture, some individuals have been so impressed that they have suggested such incredible feats could not have been done by man aloneâ?"especially people using stone tools. They have, therefore, put forth the idea that aliens from outer space must have assisted the Egyptians in building some of their more massive and complex temples and pyramids!

From your readings in the textbook, the CD-ROM, and individual research:

* Choose three of the more complex structures. Capture images of each of them and put them into a document that you can use to point out specifics regarding these buildings.
* For each structure do the following: Identify it, state its location and the purpose for which it was built
* Explain what was involved in the construction process of these massive structures relative to such things as tools, movements of stone, sculpturing, general art work, etc. that seem so extraordinary to us today. Discuss how construction was accomplished if no aliens assisted and the role human beings had to have played to bring this about.
* Examine the works you have chosen in connection with the fact that many facets of Egyptian art seem to have been "death centered." How is this demonstrated by any of the structures you have chosen?
* Discuss elements of Egyptian artistic form that can be seen within the architecture of some modern buildings. In other words, what has modern man copied from the Egyptians?
