To set out a very particular movement or paradigm and even philosophy and schools/techniques that defined 20th century art is impossible for no one particular movement or group, unlike in the past ages with the Baroque & the Renaissance movements, 20th century art was not all about 1 technique, 1 dominant philosophy or school. Parisian Art Historian Nicholas Pioch contests that unlike in the past, there is no 'mainstream', just genres. Now when we say 'modern arts' we do not just refer to painting or drawing.
