Observational techniques:
Select between five and 10 schools to evaluate. Write up a list of observable behaviors that are related to gender role stereotyping in the classroom. These behaviors can include:
? Which gender is called on to answer questions.
? Which gender is called on to help the teacher with special tasks such as handing back papers, erasing the board, and other classroom specific tasks.
? Which gender is disciplined more often and for what types of behavior.
? If the teacher employs assigned seating notice the distribution of students with gender in mind. Is there a discrepancy regarding gender (closer to teacher or closer to back of the room?)
? Is one gender allowed more liberties as opposed to the other (get a drink, go to bathroom, see the nurse, line up to go to lunch or recess, etc)
