The Juvenile Justice System (JJS) in the US is facilitated by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). It is this branch of government that is manages matters related to juvenile justice, from "jurisdictional age boundaries for delinquency and status offence matters, administration of delinquency services (e.g., probation, detention, aftercare and corrections), the core requirements of the JJDPA, and trying juveniles as adults in criminal court" (Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, n.d.). The state of the current JJS in the US has developed over the years, moulded and influenced by events that shaped it to the system that it became today.
