Research shows that as ethnic and racial groups continue to shift demographically complexities occur within various groups of peoples, and individuals or groups encounter more and more diversity issues. Several definitions have been set forth to define diversity. One definition is that "Diversity is a subjective experience of social categories to which members feel they belong" (Garcia-Prieto, Bellard, & Schneider, 2003). According to Garcia-Prieto et al., the core argument regarding what diversity means is based on social identities that become salient in different context and at different times. For instance, under some conditions, emotions become salient and influence how individuals interpret and appraise events. In other words, their interpretation of specific events influence conflicts, emotions, cognitive appraisals and affective processes that determine how people act and behave. For example, as Garcia-Prieto (2003) explain, an America manager might perceive race and gender to be important, status-determining traits whereas an Israeli manager might see religion as critical—with religion viewed by the Israeli as extremely import (Earket & Mosakowski, 2000 as cited in Garcia-Prieto et al., 2003 ).
