First, it is important to define abstinence as it is often misconstrued. Many teens believe that abstinence means you are avoiding penetration and/or genital-to-genital contact; however, teen abstinence also refers to not engaging in any sex play beyond light kissing and hugging. Engaging in any form of sex (e.g. oral, anal, etc. ) means you are NOT practicing abstinence. Today, many teens believe that these high risk sexual behaviors are safe and is highly acceptable as an alternative to actual intercourse. As a result, many are unaware of the dangerous risks that exist in engaging in these acts.

Adolescents must be taught that sexual urges and attraction is normal and they aren't wrong for feeling this way; however, abstinence from sex should be encouraged as adolescents are not aware of ...
