Emotionally Guided Decision Making

Richard Lazarus (Hyman, 2002) was an American psychologist who studied the role of emotions in decision making, especially the role of coping and denial. This has become the basis for the approach of 'emotional modelling' who according to Gratch (2005), "emphasize that emotions arise from the interaction between the external environment and a person's internal dispositions (such as goals)." The fact is - emotions impact the decisions we make as how we feel motivate us to certain conclusions, to certain actions. If we fear something, we tend to work to combat that fear or avoid that fear. This was Lazarus' point - that emotions are the most dominant driver in the most meaning actions or decisions we make in life. Emotions lead us to decide on actions that give us negative feelings and move us to actions that give us positive feelings.
