Eating a healthy diet - Consuming an adequate amount of calories and protein is important to give the body fuel and materials for building tissue, repairing tissue, and maintaining tissue. Vitamins and minerals are also extremely important for the body to be able to function. As a person ages, the amount of calories they need decreases; however, the amount of protein they consume should increase. Because a person's lean body mass decreases with age, 10-15% of their daily diet should be protein (1).
