Human nature resists change due a fear of the unknown. It causes stress, so it is often avoided at all costs. Many people (not all) would rather keep behavior, even if it were not effective, because it is still familiar (known). When the person experiences stress, they resist change because hey see it as a threat to their psychological well-being, either conscious or unconsciously. Resistance to change is the action taken by individuals and groups when they perceive that a change that is occurring as a threat to them. The key words here are 'perceive' and 'threat'.
