Stan presents in counseling with a drinking problems. He considers himself a loner. He has had a rough time getting along with people. According to Stan, when he is drinking, things don't appear to be so overwhelming, He is also afraid that people will be bored with him. He has very few friends, and admits that people frighten him. He also feels overwhelmed when around strong, attractive women He harbors feelings that they won't think much of him as a man. He is experience anxiety and feels as a failure. He notes that his mother was strong and dominant woman who was always telling him that he was worthless. Her mother was also a dominant figure with her father. In addition, Stan expresses suicidal ideation. He wants to turn his life around but is unsure of how to do it.
