Multiculturalism simply refers to the idea that a community or society at large contains within its bounds people and groups of different cultures, worldviews, ethnicities and beliefs, among others. It refers to the diversity of difference - in age, in politics, in ethnicity, in religion, in gender, etc. It is not a new phenomenon either, according to the IEP (2014), "Cultural diversity has been present in societies for a very long time...Contemporary political theorists have labelled this phenomenon of the coexistence of different cultures in the same geographical space multiculturalism.
