Chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic debilitating diseases currently have a larger impact upon the nation's health because these diseases kill hundreds of thousands of Americans each year. Diabetes, which leads to other chronic diseases is one of the most common chronic diseases along with diseases emanating from alcoholism and the use of tobacco. The issue of obesity around the globe is heavily contributing to chronic diseases and academic research has long established the link between obesity and being overweight in regard to chronic diseases prevalent in 21st century populations.
