    Advanced Practice Nursing is defined as either an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) or an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse ( APRN). Advanced practice nursing requires a higher level of education; that is , they require a Masters in Nursing degree at the minimum. This requirement will be expanded to the Doctor of Nursing practice by 2015. The extended education will help nurses gain a larger skill set, increase assessment abilities, increase their ability to plan for and implement care, and bolster their ability to diagnose patients. Nurses can advance their nursing careers by becoming advanced practice nurses.
