The definition of abortion:
Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy, before the foetus is able to sustain an independent life. The termination of the pregnancy may be deliberate, i.e. by surgical or chemical means, or it may happen naturally. Which ever way, a fetus is aborted when it is unable to continue to develop as a result of having been removed from the mother's womb (Hitchcock 2007, p. 23)
