    Heart Disease and Tuberculosis

    The term "heart disease" refers to different types of heart conditions. According to the CDC (2009), it is the leading cause of death in the United States affecting people of various ages and backgrounds. Heart disease can damage the coronary arteries that provide oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle. This is caused by certain risk factors such as family history or heredity, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes ("Heart Attack Risk Factors", 2011). These risk factors, except for family heredity, can be controlled or minimized by a healthy diet, exercise and not smoking. Furthermore, heart disease can impair how the heart functions, and alter the structure of the heart and its blood vessels.
