After living in Japan for five years of my life, I deem it as a high context communicative culture. Since high context cultures are characterized by close connections over a long period of time, this culture definitely typifies this type since the ties between colleagues, neighbors, and family are so strong. High context also suggests implicitly behaviors and norms. So much of what takes place in Japanese communication is nonverbal and implied.
