The purpose of this study was to add to the dearth of research involving the role that transformational leaders exert in implementation effectiveness because there are gaps in this specific area of transformational research. Although there is a wealth of general research on transformational leaders, a dearth of research exists in regard to how these transformational leaders influence their subordinates to become more innovative in their roles. Therefore, this research was conducted to address whether transformational leaders' behaviors and/or attitudes can critically help in predicting whether employees' will have positive attitudes toward innovation and implementing the necessary innovations for transformational success.

The research team chose mental health workers as well as the implementation of Evidence Based Practices to examine whether these workers had positive attitudes toward innovation and implementation success if exposed to transformational leadership. Researchers tested these mental health employees' evaluations of EBP to ascertain whether their attitudes were related to successful implementation of innovative strategies when rated by their immediate supervisors. Researchers sought to contribute to the existing literature on the subject matter while also helping with society's need to ensure that the most effective EBP practices are implemented in mental health settings.

Researchers' developed specific tests that could help understand both leader behavior as well as leader attitudes' to ascertain whether "transformative" leaders were more able to influence their subordinates attitudes and behaviors when implementing EBP policies. A multilevel model of transformational leadership and leaders' attitudes was tested by researchers to establish "predictors" on EBP for future relevance in organizations to help ensure that EBP is passionately implemented by staff in mental healthcare institutions.
