Differentiation of instruction is the process of ensuring that all learners are adequately challenged and make continuous progress by using a variety of teaching strategies to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners. With the use of Web 2.0 tools, instructors open up a host of new opportunities for learning and collaborating to take place. "A key to differentiating instruction is having a multitude of strategies to use with students on different learning paths. The strategy that works brilliantly with a few students might self-destruct with another group" (Lightle, 2011). However, when utilizing Web 2.0 tools for differentiation of instruction, certain challenges will likely present itself. For one, since adult students are a very diverse group of learners from different backgrounds and age groups, it is not very likely that they are all on the same page the first day of instruction. This means that the facilitator will need to find a common ground to begin instruction and help those who are struggling in the beginning understanding the classroom format, the instruction format, and the use of Web 2.0 tools to send and receive information.
