Legal and Ethical Implications for Classroom Management

APA specifies a simple title page, but many colleges and professors want other things to be included, even if they are not strictly APA. Please follow your professor's instructions for the title page if they have given you special guidelines.

In general, APA uses double-spacing, Times New Roman font in size 12, and a standard paragraph indent. Search the Internet using the phrase APA formatting, and you will get many sites with good information on APA protocol. One very good one is found at: owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/.

To start addressing the essay content, you will need to do some research on the topic. In the instructions for the assignment, it sounds like your professor wants only two sources from the Internet at large, the last two of the six specified. This type of assignment is actually called an annotated bibliography, and you can also search the net for examples and instructions for how to create one.

While you are looking for your reference sources, be sure to note the location information for each so that you can cite them. You will need author(s) names, date of publication, article or book title, page numbers for articles in journals or magazines, publisher and URL address for the Internet-based ones.

You will begin with an introduction that introduces your readers to the essay topic. This paragraph should contain your thesis statement (highlighted in blue for you to easily find). I would suggest organizing the remainder of the paper into subheadings, one for each article you review. APA specifies the formatting of headings, so yours should follow that protocol.

Now, research (look for) and select (skim content and choose) the six resources you would like to use for this assignment. Read them each critically, taking notes on main points. Then, PUT THE ARTICLES AWAY, and using your notes, re-tell the information in your own words, so that you do not plagiarize (copy) from the source. Then, make at least one suggestion for practical classroom use that is based upon the information from that resource.

When all six resources have been reviewed, you will need to compose a conclusion paragraph that sums up what you have had to say in the essay, without repeating yourself. DO NOT say things like "in conclusion," because this is the last paragraph, it would logically be the conclusion, so it does not need those words.

Legal and Ethical Guidelines for Classroom Management

This is generally not very happy news for teachers working with parent's offspring in the classroom, as there are numerous things that occur in the process of interacting with other people that could conceivably cause displeasure to either student or parent. However, there is information available that can help guide the educator through this potential minefield of litigation, and ...
