Research and describe web page development application software from various software companies. How are they similar? How are they different? What are some of the important features of these programs that assist a novice like Juan learn how to create web pages?
One of the most popular web page development application software is Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, which is quite ideal for web designers, web developers and visual designers (Adobe, 2009). Apart from this there are several other application software including HTML editors such as NVU and AceHTML which also allow easy designing and editing of web pages. There are also other website and content management software such as Joomla and Drupal (Joomla.com, 2009). They offer rapid application development features apart from an integrated development environment that requires very less or limited knowledge of HTML. Apart from this application software such as MS Word enable designing of web pages, although the features are not as extensive as those offered by software such as Dreamweaver.
The key similarities between all these web page development applications is the ease of use, simplicity, visual interface and wide ranging rapid application development tools. For example, a novice such as Juan can quickly learn to create basic and simple web pages using the drag and drop features offered by these application programs. However, to design complex web pages and designs he would require having some expertise in using these programs. However, most of these programs offer self-learning tutorials which are quite easy to learn. The best part in using the application software is that the learner does not need to have extensive knowledge of HTML and CSS. Most of the HTML coding is done in the background by the software, as the user drags and drops various controls.
The key differences in using the software are the features offered by various software. For example, Dreamweaver offers extensive web page development features that are useful for both novice designers as well as experienced web designers. Other web page application software such as AceHTML and NVU are more convenient for the novice designers rather than the expert designers due to the limited number of features offered by these software. However, novice designers such as Juan can alos start developing websites with Dreamweaver or Joomla, the basic difference being that the learning curve is rather steep if he starts developing sites with these rich web application software. On the other hand, using simple HTML editors would enable creation of simple websites, but he would have to move to either Dreamweaver, Joomla or other similar software to create complex web sites.
