What is an RFP, and how do analysts use one to gather information about hardware and system software?
The RFP simply means a request for proposal. When the government wants to enter into a contract it sends an RFP to contractors that maybe qualified. Usually, the RFP is an early stage in the procurement process. It is an invitation for suppliers to submit a proposal. When an RFP for hardware or software is issued the responding vendors give specifications about the software or the hardware they propose to sell. This provides information about the different software and hardware available.
