During the implementing of a new project, the appropriate leadership leadership behavior to exercise or utilize will depend on the varied circumstances that an organization is expected to face. We will discuss various leadership styles that can be effectively used to tackle the challenges and issues with the implementation of a new project.

First of all, let us imagine a situation where the new project requires significant change in the organization, be it in terms of overall corporate culture, processes and systems, etc. The need for such change arise due to several reasons, such as the fact that the new project is a totally new and innovative project requiring significant alterations and adaptations on part of the organization. In such a situation, leadership styles such as transformational or charismatic leadership works very well in the sense that such leadership behavior tend to overcome the resistance among the organizational employees and motivate them to transform themselves in order to embrace the change. Such leadership behavior is critical in terms of securing cooperation from the employees for the new project, especially when there is lot of pessimism, fear and apprehension about a new project. Transformational leadership also works well in situations where urgency is required or time is quite short in terms of implementing the new project. In such a situation, transactional leadership works well in terms of clarifying the followers about the processes, establishing order and consistency, enabling plans and control mechanisms,etc. Basically, transactional leadership aims to clarify all confusions and reduce complexities associated with the given project, thereby making the tasks and goals absolutely clear for the followers and thus, reducing ambiguity.
