The application of the Work of Edward Deming is that if the principles of management are applied in an suitable manner, a firm can increase quality and at the same time reduce costs. According to Deming the costs can be reduced through bringing down the level of staff turnover, litigation, reworking, and bringing down waste. According to Deming there is need to continuously improve quality and think of manufacturing as a system and not bits and pieces. If applied to an organization that has a continuous manufacturing system like an extrusion line, the direct application of Deming's principles would be to examine the process whenever there was a breakdown of the production line, list the causes and ensure that they do not happen in future. In an extrusion process breakdowns can happen because of machine causes, raw material causes, or worker related causes. To improve the quality of the final product each type of cause has to be addressed and improvements made in the process. If Deming's method is applied then improvements in the extrusion line have to be made on continuous basis.
