You must determine which performance appraisal and training and development program would best support your organization (retail business like, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, Etc).
1. Select a performance appraisal method that would be most effective to the organization's structure and support your selection.
A performance appraisal method that will be most effective to the organization's structure will be that of performance appraisal forms to be sent to the supervisors of each employee. The performance appraisal forms would have provision for between 5 and 7 criteria for evaluation. In case of the lowest level of employees namely, baggers, cashiers, and associates, there will be five pre-decided criteria on the basis of which a five point rating scale will have to be ticked by the supervisor in presence of the employee. The completed form will have the signature of both the supervisor and the employee.
In case of levels above those of the entry level jobs, the criteria will be left blank. The supervisor and the evaluated employee will jointly develop a list of criteria, assign weights to these criteria, and return the form to the HR before the evaluation period commences. At the end of the evaluation period the supervisor and the employee will sit together and fill up the rating, and calculate the composite ...
