    Negotiation Situation that I participated in:

    I run an outsourcing services firm and provide outsourced/contract market research, data entry and information technology services to small and medium sized businesses in North America at lower costs. The main advantage for company to outsource some of their activities to me is significant cost savings. However, often, organizations are skeptical to outsource because they fear that quality will suffer.

    I constantly have to enter into negotiations with my current and potential clients regarding pricing for my services. Often, clients try to bargain too much by saying that they will only like to outsource if they see huge cost savings. In such a situation, I have to convince my clients in the negotiation for a higher price by stating that unlike other cheap outsourcing services providers, we try to deliver services of the highest quality and thus, I advise clients that they should not take their outsourcing decision solely on pricing, but also strike a balance between cost savings and quality and chose a provider like me that charges little higher than others, but also guarantees quality work. I need to highlight the importance of quality, reliability and timeliness for a longer term association and mutually beneficial relationship to win such negotiations and outsourcing contract. Most of the times, I am able to convince my clients to agree on my pricing terms and conditions.

    Communication can be termed as the heart and soul of negotiation scenario and plays a very important role in the negotiation process. For example, in above mentioned negotiation scenarios for my organization, I often have to become a good listener, understand my client's viewpoints and communicate my proposition in a manner that best resolves his concerns and issues.
